Brac

|

With its steep sides and the highest peak in the Adriatic, Brac is a mammoth of and island. The western point of BRac hides the small town of Milna where most of the local yachtin community hangs out at the small but cheerful marina, before setting off to find a more secluded (and free) mooring spot for the night.

If you feel like a bit of excercise, hike up to Vidova Gora, the highest spot on the island, and from which the views are spectacular.

A smaller version of Dubrovnik with its fortification, narrow shaded streets and summer festivals, it has long been a favourite of the yachting community.

Latovo

|
button_check_availability.gif
One of the most remote islands in the region, it provides an ideal hideaway in its deep and hidden bays.

Full of great anchorages and swimming locations, it also boasts some fantastic restaurants for yachties, providing mooring and water while you dine. Don't miss the Scorpion fish and lobster if you find yourself in this area.

A third of the island is a National park today with two saline lakes hiding a small island with a Benedictine monastery. Arguably some of the most beautiful swimming locations in the Adriatic.

Skradin

A short sail up the Krka river and you will find youself in the town of Skradin. Built around the Roman settlement of Scardone, today it is a small town full of character, good restaurants, and a springboard for those interested in visiting the Krka waterfalls further up river.

Zlarin
zlarin_sunset_sky.jpg
Initially populated by the inhabitants of SIbenik fleeing the black plague several hundred years ago. Today a popular mooring spot for yachties, it has always proved an interesting stopover for crews sailing either from the Southern Adriatic or from the Krka river, on their way to the Kornati archipelago.

Kornati
croatia_kornati_islands.jpg

Kornati is an archipelago of nearly a 100 largely uninhabited islands of really quite exceptional rugged beauty. Declared a National Park a couple of decades ago it is full of islets and bays to explore and swim around during a daytime swimstop.

Day 1 (Saturday) Kastela - Milna

Set sail from brandnew Kastela marina (just outside the Roman city of Split) for the mountainous island of Brac, two hours along the Dalmatian coast. Moor at the pretty town of Milna: if you're the fishing type, head for one of the coves and BBQ the day's catch or relax in a local taverna.

Day 2 Milna - Stari Grad

After a leisurely breakfast (fresh breads and pastries are a Croatian institution), set sail for the wine island of Hvar, to sample local specialities. Anchor in a quiet bay enroute to swim and enjoy a picnic, then make for the little harbour of Stari Grad in time for dinner in a characterful family restaurant.

Day 3 Stari Grad - Hvar

Sail two to three hours to historic Hvar town, spending the afternoon ashore. Admire the handsome Italianate piazza (second largest in the Adriatic after St Mark's); walk up to the old town fort, or explore the little alleyways and cafés around the lively marble square. After dinner, relax and over a drink at one of the many seafront bars.

Day 4 Hvar - Vis

Sail to St Klement, on the southern side of Hell's Islands, and anchor by a sandy beach to swim, snorkel and relax. Arrive at Vis town in time to visit the Roman ruins before supper: choose between Vila Kaliopa, set in the courtyard of an abandoned Roman villa; Pojoda, (the chef runs a men's cooking school); or Stoncica, beside a beautiful lagoon with a wonderful sandy beach (popular with the children!).

Day 5 Vis - Komiza

Set sail for Komiza on the southern shore, stopping to swim in beautiful bays or the jewel-like Green Cave. Moor at Komiza in the late afternoon - then dine at Bako's on the seafront, or Jastozera's lobster restaurant in town.

Day 6 Komiza - Lucice

It's definitely worth setting sail a bit earlier this morning! Towards noon, the Blue Grotto on Bisevo Island lights up a fabulous turquoise blue - the sunlit seawater throwing sparkling reflections up to the cave roof. After lunch, sail to the secluded bay of Lucice on Brac island for supper in a quiet family tavern.

Day 7 Lucice - Split

Today you could choose a leisurely sail to the northern side of Solta island for a swim, returning to Kastela marina in the evening. Or let us show you round the third-century towns of Trogir and Split, scattered with the ruins of Roman statues and palaces. Fly out from Split the next day, after sleeping out on deck under the stars!

Possible alternatives

Some of the restaurants in these islands are so good, the Italians come over specially to sample them. So, if you're keen on food, ask us to recommend some gourmet stop-offs.
We have several friends in the area who run excellent (and extremely professional) diving trips - either to wrecks (of which there are many, given the area's history) or to explore the sea's underwater geography. Day trips, or longer, can be arranged. All you need to do is ask!

Extend your stay

Why not stay in the Spilt region and go to one of our many family sun hotels and enjoy a huge variety of water sports, or just relax in a hidden cove. You could also sample one of our Activity itineraries in Plitvice or Dubrovnik and try kayaking, canoeing, riding or cycling.
