24 June 2010

World Cup regatta in the German Kiel

In the World Cup regatta in the German Kiel, Croatian sailors won two medals - gold and bronze.

With excellent sailing in Medal Race, Ivan Kljakovic Gašpić successfully overtook Spanish Trujillo to achieve a third win in the last three competitions (European Cup, Delta Lloyd Regatta and Kile week).
Ivan finished 4th, but that was enough to make up for the gap of four points from Trujillo, who finished 9th.

With this victory, Ivan broke out as the second in the overall World Cup standings, with only one point less then Trujillo. The final and decisive World Cup regatta will be in early August in England Weymouth. Weymouth is  also the scene for the next Olympic Games.

The crew in the class of 470, Šime Fantela – Igor Marenić also managed to take the medal. They won the bronze and announced the promising upcoming performance at the World Championships, where they will be defending gold.
The World Cup is scheduled for the middle of next month in Den Haag in Netherlands.

In the class 49 and Laser, Pavle Kostov - Peter Cupac took 14th place, and Tonci Stipanovic completed competition on 27th
place.
